We Heart Kansas City: Finefolk Sprint / Summer 2014 Fashion Show

Last Saturday the Ampersand ladies attended the Finefolk fashion show in Kansas City’s Haw Contemporary. We drooled over the collections curated by owner Leslie Fraley! If you didn’t get a chance to make it be sure stop by her boutique shop in the KC Crossroads to see her designer lines of clothes, accessories, and beauty products. The Kansas City fashion scene just keeps getting better and better, right? Let us know what you think!

8 days a week: thank you to jordan clark 03.21.2014

We are so happy to introduce you to Jordan Clark, the owner of ScatterBrained collars. Jordan makes the most amazing and fun pet accessories that we’ve ever seen. She does bow ties collars like the one below, fabric flower collars, leashes and so much more! You have to check them out here! Jordan made the adorable bow tie along with a (human) headband :) and two pillows! Biggest thanks to Jordan for volunteering your time and sharing your darling collar set with us and for being so versatile in your sewing. She can do it all! Plus, her company was born from her love of animals and she works with her local shelters and rescues in her home state of Mississippi! What’s not to love about that?! Thanks, Jordan!

8 days a week: thank you to carrie dickerson 03.20.2014

We are so happy to introduce you to Carrie Dickerson! She is one talented lady! She does custom embroidery, monogramming and sewing over at her shop, One Pink Duck. Her work is just beautiful so we were excited to see what she would cook up with 8 days a week. She did not disappoint. She made the little skirt and top set (modeled here by Carrie’s sweet niece, Emma, who you may recognize from our Cream and Sugar days). We love the umbrella applique. SO cute! The shorts modeled by Carrie (Kiefer)’s son, Emmett, were also sewn by Carrie (Dickerson). (This is getting confusing to type with all these Carries.) Those two loved jumping around in their polka dot duds. Carrie made the sweet vintage dog toy below as well. Who doesn’t love a cute striped Scotty dog? Carrie designed the patterns for the kids’ clothes herself and used this pattern for the little dog. Impressive, huh? Thank you, Carrie for your time and amazing work on our pieces! We really appreciate it!

we heart kansas city: KC Fashion Week 03.19.2014

The Kansas City Fashion Week can rival the best! We’re so proud that such a well put together event happens right here in KC!

This year, Morgan & Carrie missed it, but the newest Ampersandee, Kathy, represented on Saturday night and was blown away!

Did any of you get to go? Tell us, what was your favorite part!?

I went for the first time to the Saturday show! I really loved the photo bus, can I say that was my favorite part?!

Actually, I really enjoyed the pieces I saw come down the runway that were wearable. I’m all about the practical.

The photo bus is the best! We’re so sad we missed the show. It sounds like it was such a good one. We love the wearable pieces also. Really, we love all of it! Can’t wait for next year!

8 Days a Week: thank you to Monica Spiehs 03.07.2014

We are so excited to introduce you to Monica Spiehs and her mad sewing and pattern designing skills! We can’t even express how lucky we were that Monica volunteered to help us with our sewing projects! She was a rock star taking on so many pieces and designing them as well. We just gave her a few thoughts on what we were looking for and she made them come to life! She made the a-line skirt in the yellow polka dot fabric, worn by Michelle from her own design. Then, she created the little numbers dress with the ruffled sleeves for her own daughter, Lilli. We can’t even handle the cuteness of both, the dress and Lilli! Really, are you kidding with how darling that dress and all its little details are (the yellow buttons, the pink top stitching… ahhh!)? Then, there’s the baby romper, modeled by sweet Amya! Another dose of sweetness overload, no?! We just loved the ideas Monica had for how to make our fabrics come to life! We are pestering her to start making patterns for the rest of us to use because they are just too good not to be out there in the world! As if those weren’t enough amazing projects for her to take on, she did our flag banner as well. So cute for a nursery or kid’s playroom, don’t you think? Monica: thank you doesn’t even cut it. We are so grateful for your talent! Thank you for your time and generosity and for supplying one of our lovely models! We can’t even wait to see what Monica is up to next. We are hopeful it includes some patterns for her designs or some kid’s clothes!
