From the Field: Mother’s Day DIY event with Anthropologie 05.24.2013

Two weeks ago, we had the pleasure of hosting a Mother’s Day DIY event with Anthropologie! We put together a really fun painted flower pot DIY that could be the perfect Mother’s Day gift or just a colorful addition to your windowsill! The event was filled with more laughter and creativity than we could’ve imagined! We really wish you ALL could’ve been there, but just in case you missed it, these photos by the talented Eric Linebarger perfectly capture the festivities! Stay tuned for a follow-up post where we will include the full DIY for you to do at home!

The evening was filled with sweet treats, cocktails and the most fun gals in the city!

We had flower pots, paints, brushes and the fixings for a flower pick with a sweet sentiment! And never fear, we kept everyone’s darling outfits free of paint with some canvas aprons!

We really can’t get over how creative all of our guests were! Check out this darling mini-dot flower pot?!

Morgan was delivering succulent plants while Carrie was hard at work hand-lettering each guest’s apron!

Biggest thanks to Emily & Jordan for helping us make this event happen!! Jordan, thank you for all of the paint-testing, flower-pot-reseraching, plant finding, picking up, setting up and cleaning up! Without your creativity, and fabulous DIY sensibilities, we never could’ve made this happen! Emily, thank you for tying up all of our loose ends! We are so lucky to get to work with you ladies!

We had so much fun with you all, let’s do it again sometime, shall we?!

And biggest thanks also to Molly & Tiffany at the Leawood, Kansas Anthropologie store!! Thanks for making it so fun to plan this event together and for all of the sweet treats! We hope we get to partner with you again soon! PS – check out Carrie and Tiffany’s cute baby bumps!!!

It’s called Inspire Lovely, and if you’ve already visited this darling shop, then we are mad at you for not sharing it with us…but if this is news to you, you can thank us later! Isn’t it great? Our heads are filled with all kinds of project and party ideas!!!! Just scroll on down, yours will, too!

And look at this, a 2013 mini calendar!

    Happy Valentines Day!

Sadly, this falls the day after my birthday so it flies a bit under the radar for us. Maybe one day I’ll get some flowers! xx

candy airplane valentines 02.13.2013

This little craft is one that I remember from being a kid. My mom made these airplanes for us for some occasion and I guess I never forgot it. It is just as simple as can be. You just raid the candy aisle at the grocery store and assemble with a single rubber band. I printed little tags for them, but you could just as easily hand-write them or skip that step altogether. The only snag I had was that it was not as easy to find good ol’ Lifesavers in a roll as I assumed it would be. They didn’t have them at the first two places I went so I went from jumbo Smarties instead (which worked great because I could tie the little tags right onto the bunchy ends. Happy Valentine’s Day! —Carrie

how to make heart-shaped crayons 02.12.2013

I’ll just come clean from the start, my cute mom is the one who came up with this idea and, of course, executed it to perfection. If I haven’t mentioned on here before, my mom is Martha Stewart’s clone. She can come up with and make anything you could imagine. So, I was not the least bit surprised to come home one afternoon after she was hanging out with my 2 year old son, to find that they had made these heart-shaped crayons together. She used all of my old crayons from when I was a kid, so it’s even sentimental that my son is now getting to play with a new and improved form of the very crayons I learned to color with. So, although I didn’t do these steps myself this time, they are SO easy, that I (the very non-Martha Stewart daughter) can walk us all through them!

All you need is:

1. a bunch of crayons

and

2. some silicone mini-heart baking cups. {If you’re local, go get them at Pryde’s Old Westport, if not, you can find them online}

And the steps are SO easy. Just chop or break up the crayons after you have removed the paper wrappers. Even better if you have a bunch of old crayons that are already in small pieces-this is a perfect way to reuse them!

Fill the mini heart-cups with your chopped crayons and bake in the oven at 200 degrees for about 5-7 minutes (no more than 10). It’s easiest to just watch them and when they appear melted, pull them out, let them cool and voila! Brand new heart-shaped crayons!

My son has been loving them because as he uses them, different colors of crayons keep popping up! Well, it’s all thanks to my mom, but I hope this gives you guys a great and EASY idea for a Valentine’s Day activity or little gift!

Happy Heart Day

– Morgan
