West Elm Grand opening party 08.21.2014

Last night was the Grand Opening preview party for our brand new West Elm store on the Country Club Plaza so it was the perfect opportunity to go visit our products on the West Elm shelves!!! It was such a high to see our totes and new 8×10 ampersands sitting with the other local products in one of our all-time favorite stores!

Plus, the party itself was so fun and West Elm was PACKED with people checking out the new digs! Also, we already love West Elm for partnering with local makers, but love them even more for donating a portion of the night’s profits to Bridging the Gap, an awesome local KC environmental non-profit. Judging by the crazy-long check-out lines all night, they were surely able to donate a lot of money to this great cause. There was also awesome music and a Smilebooth set up for fun pics!

It was such a fun night of yummy food by Howard’s Organic Fare and Vegetable Patch and cocktails from The Campground

It was so great to catch up with one of our favorite KC bloggers, Megan of Chasing Davies! How cute is she for wearing our tote to the opening?! Be sure to go check out her blog post to see how she styled the Crossroads bag in the most darling way!

Our products were in the best company on the local display! So many amazing makers. Cute products below from Convivial Production, Ruff House Art and Tad Carpenter Creative.

Thanks West Elm, for a great night and for including us as a part of West Elm Local!

They are doing something really cool, called #westelmlocal and they have decided to partner with a select few local makers for handcrafted goods…all from LOCAL artisans!

We couldn’t possibly be more excited to announce that we are one of those local makers!!! That’s right, you can now find Ampersand Design Studio products at the brand new West Elm store on the Country Club Plaza!!!!!!!! AHHH…..we are pinching ourselves to be collaborating with one of our very favorite stores! We’ll have a few of our favorite products there including our brand new “Kansas City” tote bags in both styles AND a new addition to our line-up is our ampersand screen prints in a new size: 8″ x 10″ (which happens to fit perfectly in many of our favorite West Elm’s picture frames)!

announcing: our new Kansas City tote bags!!! 08.18.2014

We have been DYING to share this fun little addition to our etsy shop…and finally the day is HERE!!!

There’s no doubt that we LOVE the city where we were both born, raised and have chosen as our home to raise our own families. What better way to show our Kansas City pride than to create our very own product to showcase the love? We’ve been wanting to do these for so long; it’s really exciting that we are getting to launch them today!!

They are perfect for just about anything — whether you’re headed to the farmer’s market, the gym, the pool, or simply to use as your everyday bag! These limited edition Kansas City totes come in two styles and there are only 50 of each!

“The Plaza” Kansas City tote is a black canvas bag with metallic gold hot foil  “Kansas City” lettering!

“The Crossroads” Kansas City tote is a natural canvas bag featuring stripes hand-painted by us with screen printed “Kansas City” lettering in black ink. Each bag comes with its very own tassel & pom charm that we’ve handmade including two tassels, beads and yarn poms in various colors. Each charm is a unique color combination — no two bags are alike!!

Get ‘em before they’re gone!

Handmade and screen printed in Kansas City! #shopampersand #madeinkc #kansascity

A Day in our crazy lives! 08.15.2014

Today, we’re really proud to be featured over on the KC Moms Blog as one (well, make that two) of Kansas City’s “Mompreneurs” ! There are a lot of us out there. Mothers who juggle raising a family and either starting or running a business at the same time. We always love hearing about how other women make it work, how they got started, and what drives them to keep going. So, we’re really honored to be able to answer some of those questions ourselves! It’s a crazy world, that’s for sure, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! Over on the KC Moms Blog, there’s a full interview featuring what a day in our lives actually looks like, what drives us and we talk a bit about that magic word, “balance”.
We were SO lucky to have Allison, of Allison Corrin Photography, stop by our studio in the KC Crossroads for a full interview AND photo session. Allison, a fellow mompreneur, and mother of FOUR, could not have been sweeter, and more patient. We sort of just wanted her to hang out there with us all day! She is such a talented photographer and was really able to capture what our day to day looks like (granted, we’re usually wearing a lot less make-up and flip-flops)! So, huge thanks to Allison for putting this all together! Make sure to check out her website and blog to see her beautiful work and more images from our shoot with her.
Also, if you aren’t already familiar with the KC Moms Blog and you’re a mom in KC….come on now, start following them immediately for intelligent articles, real-world mom advice, and all kinds of inspiring stories and tips! They’re on facebook and twitter, too!
One more thing, we are just the first of six in the “Mompreneur” Series! So make sure to find out about these awesome KC mompreneurs, too! Here are the dates you’ll find them on the KC Moms Blog: 8/15 Ampersand Design Studio (that’s us, but you already knew that), 8/22 The Yellow Peony, 8/29 Modern Makers, 9/5 SwimZip, 9/12 BadSeed, 9/22 The Busy Mom Cupcakes

Morgan is gearing up for baby #2 07.18.2014

Hey everyone, Morgan here today. It’s taken me a couple of weeks to actually get this post up, so although it says 34 weeks on the wall, I’m currently sitting at 36 weeks pregnant with my second boy on the way!!!! I’m not even sure how it’s possible that I’ve already gotten to 36 weeks, but here I am, SUPER large and SUPER excited! There will be almost 4 years between my kiddos, so, at this point, I’m just hoping my husband and I remember what to do with a baby.

Although we wanted another child so badly, I had some anxiety about having another kid. I didn’t want to take any time or attention away from our son, Shaw. But Shaw couldn’t possibly be more excited to become a big brother, so that is already making this a much smoother transition! He has been dividing up his toys and books, letting us know which ones are for “little brother” and which ones he wants to keep in his room. He constantly talks about how he wants to keep little brother safe and take care of him. He hugs my belly and says that he just can’t wait any longer for him to get here!! Ahh…it melts my heart. This new little guy sure is lucky to have Shaw for an older brother. Let’s just hope things don’t do a 180 when the baby is actually here!

So, since I had a baby last, there are some new things out there that I have my eye on for baby, mama and for big brother and I thought I’d share them with you all!

1 // I have been loving the cool necklaces out there for teething babies! Such a brilliant idea to make something that is actually attractive to wear and will always be right around our neck, just where the baby always wants to be. Loving this silicone teething necklace from Mama & Little  2 // Shaw wasn’t always a fan of being carried in a sling or wrap and I feel like it was my fault for not getting him used to it early enough, so this time, I am determined to have a happy baby right next to me in this mint Solly Baby wrap as much as possible 3 // I remember how hard it is for little ones to keep their shoes on, and I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about these Freshly Picked moccasins (in Prince Georgie limited edition) 4 // I’m head over heels with the idea of being lucky enough to have another baby, so the title of this book, “You are my baby” gets my every time and I’ve been reading lots of the same books for three and a half years now, so we are ready for a refresh 5 // We used our UPPAbaby stoller every single day for a while but now that my son is more into riding his bike and scooters, I wasn’t sure if a double stroller was for us. Thankfully, the UPPAbaby makes this awesome skateboard style attachment called the “Piggyback” where my son can stand and ride along while the baby is in a bassinet or seat. SO excited about this 6 // Of course our new little one needs something to wear home from the hospital and this “Hi 5″ one-piece caught my eye. It’s going to be the middle of August when he arrives , so it will likely be 90 degrees or more, so a tank one-piece is perfect 7 // I’m a huge fan of Happy Habitat (not to mention this is Kansas City company) and I think having a baby is the best excuse to invest in a fun new blanket like this one. It’s a mini blanket, just the right size, called “Waves” and it’s just too fitting for my California-cool nursery!

  1. Ashley Spaulding

I love reading about how Shaw is so excited to welcome a little brother… he’ll be the perfect age to show his brother everything he knows about life. That Happy Habitat blanket is darling… what fun! You look adorable, Morgan!!
